Necklaces

Necklaces have been worn throughout history, by both men and women, and have been used as marks of distinction in many cultures. The first man-made objects for wearing around the neck were beads. However decorated, engraved or polished, whether made of precious stones or pebbles, beads serve no useful purpose unless they are made into some type of ornament which can be worn. The most prevalent use of beads was in the form of a necklace. There is evidence of prehistoric jewelers’ interest in beads, for buried in these early graves along with the occupant was often a great variety of beads, some of them still suspended from the owner’s neck. Beads are not only important in relation to necklaces, but in tracing the travels of man. Beads were essential in early trade, when bartering was used in place of most currencies. These small, often forgotten, objects are used by archeologists as tidemarks to measure the degree of a nation’s civilization.

Our collections of necklaces are made up of a variety of natural gemstones beads, pearls and findings. They range from a simple knotted strand of pearl or a necklace of gemstones with, or without, a suspended pendant to a delicate handcrafted chain with gemstones. These original necklace designs are for women who know their style.

Earrings

The oldest earrings ever unearthed by archaeologists were discovered in Iraq in the royal graves and date to about 2,500 BC. Back to 3000 BC there were two types of earrings: the hoop, and the more elaborate pendant. From 1559 B.C. to 1085 B.C. in Egypt earplugs became very fashionable. These types of piercings and earrings are seen even on King Tutankhamen. Although not as common as with females, ear piercing among males has also become popular in North America, Europe and Asia.
